This is one example of the enriched learning environment afforded students in the Charter School, which also provides hands-on learning opportunities for SFA students, not only in elementary education, but across many disciplines, including science, photography, art, human services and human sciences. The enriched environment contributes to the Charter School’s success, say College of Education administrators. Scores on the state-required TAKS test attest to that success. This year third- and fifth-grade reading scores were 100 percent, meaning every child in those grades passed, said Lysa Hagan, academic leader for the Charter School. Fifth-grade math scores were 96 percent. The state also rated the school exemplary the past six years.
Faculty meet and collaborate regularly at department level and occasionally at unit level to discuss and improve all mission statements, programs, etc. An example is documented electronically: http://www.sfasu.edu/acadaffairs/commit.html
Faculty involved in the preparation of educators, P–12 practitioners, and other members of the professional community participate in program design, implementation, and evaluation of the unit and its programs. The unit provides a mechanism and facilitates collaboration between unit faculty and faculty in other units of the institution involved in the preparation of professional educators.Grant Writing
