Technology
Over the years technology has come a remarkably long way. There are hundreds
of technology based tools that help educators to improve the learning of their
students. Throughout my first internship, I have used some forms of technology.
For some of my lessons, I have found ideas and games from a variety of websites
including: www.teachers.santee.k12.ca.us/Carl/Sort%20City.htm (Sort City),
wwww.schoolbell.com, and www.lessonplanspage.com. I have also used different
types of recording devices when listening to my students read. Recording
them allowed me to listen to them and their responses multiple times, giving
me several opportunities to understand where they need help. I am learning
myself and need to do any and everything possible to know I’m doing things
correctly. I have also seen my mentor teacher use a palm pilot to do different
assessments. I think that is a great way to use technology to check a student’s
progress, as well as be able to go back and check it later. If I had access
to computers and other forms of technology, I could do several different
things with my group. I think it would be great to have the students retell
their stories onto tape or even create their own story to put on a tape for
others to listen to. My group loves to talk and even make up silly sentences
and stories. I’ve also noticed that one student in my group doesn’t always
score too well on computerized reading tests in the classroom. I’m not sure
if it is because of the computer or the reading material. Either way, I would
like to give him more opportunities taking practice tests and working on
the computer. I feel that before we know it, we will move away from pen and
paper and move toward computers and other forms of technology. We need to
embrace it and use it to our benefit.
