DEAR COMMITTEE MEMBERS:
BEFORE I EMAIL THIS TO MELANIE, PLEASE READ OVER THIS AND LET ME KNOW IF I MISUNDERSTOOD ANYTHING OR IF YOU SEE SOMETHING WE DID NOT CONSIDER WHICH WE NEED TO CHANGE.  IF I DON’T HEAR BACK FROM YOU BY FRIDAY, I WILL EMAIL THIS TO MELANIE.
CAROL

Hi Melanie,

Our technology committee met today. Finally we have something solid to report.

We have established our direction and have begun writing our report for NCATE. Steve will begin the writing of a detailed narrative which will give the overview and direction for the COE on technology. We plan to link “evidence” to this web page as data comes in to us. This will begin as a private web site where we can pull everything together and view how it looks from within our private walls here.  We will also set up a Discussion Board where we can discuss our progress.

Once all data is received (read below), our committee will then analyze this information, summarize our findings, and develop a plan for the COE regarding the state of technology integration (strengths & weaknesses and recommendations) and how we can continue to monitor our progress. This will become part of our report, as well as any other surveys and information we discover as we investigate OIT and other areas at the university which may impact our overall report on COE technology use.

WHAT WE NEED FROM ALL SPA GROUPS:

COURSES
FIELD programs
ASSESSMENT DATA COLLECTION (TExES results, chalk & wire portfolio)
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS (anything else special the unit may do connected with technology)

WHAT WE WILL NEED FROM YOU:

Most likely, much of their “evidence” will be coming to you in the form of word docs.

AFTER you place all of this data online, please send us the LINKS to this “evidence” of technology use so we can “show EVIDENCE” of technology being integrated into each SPA program from our report.

ALSO – It was suggested in an email correspondence with NCATE that a more detailed “within unit” report, while not necessary, would be nice to see.  I discovered this SAMPLE link out on the web which we might adapt easily to a SURVEY for all SPA repts covering student and faculty use of technology: http://www.education.sfasu.edu/ele/classes/abel/Elementary_sample.pdf

We would probably only have to change blackboard to webct and add Chalk & Wire.

Please let us know if you feel we are barking up the wrong tree.

Otherwise, we will proceed with the above plan and I’ll wait to hear back from you on how you want to handle the SPA reporting and the possible SURVEY option.
