Admission to Elementary Ed  1st semester, Sophomore Year

All students DURING THE TIME THEY ARE enrolled in RDG 318, must pass the admissions test of BASIC SKILLS to be officially admitted into the Elementary Education Program. This includes all level Special Education, Kinesiology, Deaf & Hard of Hearing from all face-to-face AND online completer programs. Even ECH minors must pass this test before taking ECH 331. Students in the Head Start online program do not take this test.

Students may sign up for the test no matter what GPA they have. The Elementary Education Admissions Test of basic skills will NOT affect the grade received in RDG 318 in ANY manner. It is NOT related to RDG 318 AT ALL.

 

TEST DATES FOR FALL 2010 CLASSES
Students in Summer One classes AND wishing to take a "reading" course or ECH 331 during Summer Two MUST pass this test before taking those classes. Otherwise, students have until their fall classes to pass this test IF they plan to take "education classes" in the fall.

9/27 – 10/1, 10/4,

(10/5 reserved for Williams - 4-8 online students)

10/6, 10/7, 10/8, 10/11, 10/12, 10/13

(10/14 reserved for Barber - EC-6 online students), 10/15

10/18, 10/19, 10/20, 10/21, 10/22

 

If the student fails one or both parts of the test, they must complete the DEVELOPMENTAL COURSE MODULES before they will be allowed to re-test.

11/8 – 11/12

ALL STUDENTS are strongly encouraged to use the PREP modules BEFORE the first testing. These are located in with your other courses on WEB-CT and are NOT inside the RDG 318 course. They will appear sometime during the first week of class.

How to Prepare
The ELE ADMISSIONS TEST REVIEW preparation module will appear in My Courses DURING THE FIRST WEEKs OF CLASS to help you prepare for this exam.LOOK for them & take time to work through them. They are aligned with the basic skills test you will take on math and sentence skills so it WILL help prepare you.

NO CALCULATORS are permitted during testing.

 

TEST RESULTS are delivered to your professor who will bring them to class; online student results will be mailed to the student. Sometimes these results are returned quickly; other times, not. Please do not repeatedly ask your professor when results will be in; your professor will return them as soon as they are received from the testing office.

Students who fail this test may not take ANY MORE READING COURSES or ECH 331 until they pass.  They MAY take HMS 241 & 242 and ECH 328 as well as ELE 304, EPS 380, SPE 329 and other content courses such as ChemPhysics 125, etc.

Students who re-test MUST FIRST complete the appropriate PREP module(s)
Then contact Mary Moode, 2nd floor office ECRC, to be permitted to re-test (936 468 2904)

Admission to Teacher Ed - THIS IS DIFFERENT 1st semester, Junior Year - apply 118 McKibben  

Education majors must apply for and be admitted into the "Teacher Ed Program" (TED) during the semester BEFORE they register for Internship One. Admission to Teacher Education requires a 2.5 GPA, certain test scores noted on your advising forms, plus completion of certain courses (scores must be within the past 5 years / ask for this pre-requisite FORM in room 118 McKibben). Please note: TED Admission is currently being revised w regard to the SAT score; current total for math/reading is 1070 (writing not included).  Students must maintain the 2.5 GPA during the remainder of their course work.  If the GPA falls below 2.5 during the intern courses or student teaching, students will be dropped from professional education courses. www.sfasu.edu/education/departments/educatorcertification/undergraduatecertification.asp
