Suggestions for technology integration:
Technology as a whole is crucial to succeed in today’s world. Therefore,
integrating the use of technology in students’ everyday learning is just as
important. It has been studied that children can retain a lot of information
at the young ages, why not start early. In Mrs. Stallings class, I have not
been able to use technology as much as I would like, but I have used it a
few times with some of my students. The websites that I have gone to with
my students is Starfall.com and RainForestsMath.com. We used Starfall
when we were working on ai, ea, and oy words. In addition, we used the website
for the beginning lesson of compound words. The website has wonderful interactive
lessons. We Rain Forests Math after I have finished with both my groups and
we have extra time. Donisha and I have been working on measuring with non-measurable
objects, such as the activity where you figure out how many paperclips long
is the insect that is shown. Mrs. Stallings has about 6 computers in her
classroom that she allows her students to get on when they have finished
their assigned work. I have never seen a student not want to work on the computers.
She keeps either Starfall or Rain Forests Math on each of the computers and
allows the students to choose which website they want to work on. Most of
the students are on Rain Forests Math unless Mrs. Stallings or I are working
with them on Starfall. Another type of technology that is used with some
of my students is a tape player. By using audio devices, my students that
are struggling with fluency are able to listen to readings as many times as
they need to feel comfortable with the stories. I have seen great success
with my students that use this tool.
