Carol,
The best way to document your use of technology is
to identify what the standards require and then provide evidence for what
you are doing towards those requirements. Five of the six NCATE
Unit Standards include references to technology. In Standard 1, the elements
on professional knowledge and skills have technology expectations for candidates.
In Standard 2, the second element requires the use of technology in the maintenance
of the assessment system. In Standard 3, the second element indicates that
candidates should demonstrate their knowledge of how to use information technology
in teaching and learning. In Standard 5, in the element on modeling best
practices, professors are expected to use technology in their teaching. And
in Standard 6, there is an element entitled "Resources including Technology."
There is no checklist. The Unit Standards are the "bottom line" that should
guide both institutions and BOE members.
If you have additional questions, please let me know.

I know we do tons of technology and it is surely a commitment here and taking
off like wildfire, but I'm not sure how to "showcase"
it best and most succinctly since it is virtually "all over the place."
Any guidance re specific ways to direct me would be helpful since I need
to be efficient on how to get on top of this? in other words, what "checklist" for instance do the BOE use to evaluate
this, if indeed there is one? I like the self-studies out there but
I still can't find a "bottom line" to guide me.

That is correct. Programs
deal with technology in the SPA reports when the SPA standards address
technology (some do, some don't).

question
Margie,
Thanks for getting back to me on this. I think I am
hearing that the SPA reports take care of "technology" in "their" reports
and I should focus my attention at the "unit" level to discuss the integration
of technology.
I'll copy this to Antoinette to see if there are more specifics I should
address other than a general comment (summary) for these four areas:
Commitment
Strengths
Weaknesses
Plans for Improvement
Thanks,

Carol,
I am unclear about what you are asking--are you talking about how to document
your unit's use of technology? The program standards your cite would
be used in a program report for an individual training program for Technology
Educators. I think you are talking more about how to document the use of
technology throughout your unit. Am I understanding this correctly. If so,
I would suggest you look
at some of the examples of unit reports on our web site. If you still
have questions, the best person to talk to at NCATE would be Antoinette Mitchell(antoinette@ncate.org).
Hope this is helpful.

Technology question
Hello.
I am hoping you will be able to direct me on my mission
to show how we are integrating technology into our teacher education program
here at Stephen F. Austin State University.
It seems to me that it would be easiest to begin with
some kind of form or rubric showing how we will be evaluated on this.
When I visit this website:
http://www.ncate.org/ProgramStandards/ITEA/ITEAStandards.doc
I find these words:
Presently, there are no approved advanced (graduate) curriculum standards
for technology teacher education programs that have been approved by NCATE
and the SASB. Please contact either the ITEA or NCATE offices for further
information if necessary.
While I can appreciate your intention to give us full reign on such a new
and developing area, because this is so all encompassing and permeates everything
we do, I feel somewhat at a loss as to how to begin in some manageable kind
of way. Any input or direction would certainly be appreciated. We do
not prepare technology teachers but our faculty and teachers, of course,
use technology to improve learning for themselves as well as their students.
