Dear Certified Online Instructors:

As you know, the training for becoming a Certified Online Instructor requires the completion of an online course known as Web Course Design Community.  One of the course requirements for those participating in the course is to interview a veteran Certified Online Instructor who has developed and/or taught an online course at SFA.

Would you be willing to grant a 30-45 minute interview to a faculty member who is involved in the Course Design Community course in February 2009?  This exercise is designed to allow the novice course developer an opportunity to gain insight about the development and/or delivery of an online course by asking questions of an instructor who has taught online, and then reflect on that new knowledge.  This experience has a positive impact on trainees' overall experience not only in the Course Design Community course, but also on development of their new online courses, as well.

The Course Design Community course begins with a face-to-face orientation which allows each of the trainees to select the name of a veteran online instructor to interview.  Then, each of the trainees will be expected to contact the veteran instructor and conduct an interview.  If you agree to be interviewed, you will be contacted by only one training faculty member; duplicates will not be allowed.  And, depending on the number of faculty in training, you may not be contacted in the spring but may be contacted in the summer, instead.

Please reply to this email and indicate your response by placing an X beside one of the choices below.

_____YES, I will grant a short (30-45 minute) interview to a training faculty member

_____NO, I prefer not to grant an interview

Thank you for your consideration of this request.  Your collective knowledge of online teaching is something that should be shared and reflected upon by those who are planning to develop and deliver an online course.  Please reply to me at gweatherly@sfasu.edu, or telephone me at 1818 if you want more information about this request.

Sincerely,

Gail
